It's a visionary report for the future database research from a group of well-known researchers in database fields. It is worth a read, not too exciting though, maybe I expect too much. (report URL)
I quite agree with the view that database research is now at its turning point. Most of the database publications are still telling us the stories in the tone of RDBMS, come on.....we are at Web 2.x now.
It's good to see the two of my most-interested topic are listed in the promising field: could computing services and the interplay of structure and unstructured data.
Last but not the least, the report find out the db researchers and communities are actually doubled over years. This well explained why getting published in this area was so difficult.
